From Canada to Ukraine and Back Again

When Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022 and president Zelinski requested foreign volunteers to help fight, I decided I would go and do what I could to protect the people of Ukraine. I had never been in combat but had trained in the Canadian military and felt I had something to offer. After applying through the Ukrainian embassy I made my way through Poland to the Ukrainian border and was taken to a collection point for foreign volunteers where we were interviewed for suitability. Once there were enough of us, we were transported to a military base for training and to be issued equipment.

After about a month of training our unit was moved East to the Kharkiv region where we very quickly took up a defensive line across a river from Russian troops. My main role in the early days on the front was to gather intelligence on Russian missile and rocket attacks, which were almost constant. Initially I don’t believe the Russians knew we were occupying the position I was in because we weren’t attacked for a couple weeks. Once they realized we were there, we were hit with mortars daily, sometimes for several hours a day. We continued to do our jobs through the attacks, always worried that Russian forces would cross the river to attack us directly. After a period of mortar attacks we started taking heavy artillery and missile fire which ended up destroying the building we were in.

After about six months of fighting in Ukraine I decided to come home and get back to normal. Although I have had some issues returning to ‘normal’,  fortunately I was able to join the abnormal team at Nexus 6 and have learned a great deal about digital marketing from them. While I’m no longer looking for Russian intelligence or being hit with mortars, Nexus 6 certainly keeps me on my toes. One of the things I love about my job is that I get to be on the front lines of meeting new people and helping them improve their businesses. I enjoy getting to know people and finding out what we can do to help them. Working with the Nexus 6 team has given me the opportunity to learn all aspects of what we do from a great group of awesome and fun marketers.

A computer.

But, no seriously, we use Wordpress. It’s widely used, open source, and easy to host anywhere if you ever decide you hate us.

We work with companies from all industries that are all sizes. Our requirements for working together is simple. We don’t hate each other and we believe that we can provide real results.

Yes we do. From capturing the footage to editing it into its final form, all our work is done here.

Hell yes you do. We get it, some companies will write you a blog but claim that they own the content as a way to retain your business, that’s bullshit and we don’t play that game. It’s yours to keep once you’ve paid for it.

Firstly, there is no cost to meet with us and talk about what we can do for you. Second, each and every quote is custom. We don’t prepackage anything. We can however say that our base rate is a hell of a lot lower than most you will find out there.

Apart from having implications in the movie Blade Runner (where the company gets its name) we ourselves are somewhat of a unicorn in the fact that we offer a fair price for top tier services. We pretty humble, regardless of how many awards we’ve won.
